The mission of IC Optix® is to provide convenient, low cost, vision aids that are unobtrusive to one's lifestyle and always close at hand when needed. To accomplish this mission we have developed novel thin film magnifier technology that is integrated into product labels and also into everyday items like pens. We work with product manufacturers to help them engineer convenient vision aids into their product packaging for easy use by the consumer. We also work with promotional product companies to make scrolling magnifiers widely available to the consumer. By age 40 most people begin to have difficulty reading small print and focusing in dim lighting. This type of vision impairment, known as presbyopia, is caused by the gradual hardening of the eye’s lens over time. A significant proportion of the population is unable to read important information that is found on items such as medicines, cosmetics, foods, personal care products, agricultural chemicals, restaurant menus, and many other items. Nearly half of the population in the USA (>140 million people), over half the population in Europe (>260 million people), and approximately 1.8 billion people worldwide are over 40 years old and suffer to some degree from the effects of presbyopia.
