Humanity Play Project Information

Humanity Play Project is committed to creating performance with purpose. We strive to engage community and promote social justice through Devised Theatre. Together, we can build a future world where acceptance, empathy and education reign over discrimination, hate, and ignorance. For our inaugural event on Monday, January 18, 2016, we explored the aftermath of the Charleston, SC tragedy in a curated evening of dance, poetry, song and theatre. This performance was co-sponsored by West Los Angeles United Methodist Church. In association with Mirage Thrams, our second performance series "It's Not Funny" was staged at The Second City Hollywood on July 28, 2016 and September 1, 2016. Personal memory, poetry, music and newspaper records challenged police brutality and honored the memory of Mirage's father who was killed by police. Our third project was an interactive Theatre for Young Audiences play entitled #Right2Recess that follows a group of third graders who find out their new principal is threatening to take away recess time. With the help of fellow students, a teacher ally and audience members, they organize a protest march to make their voices heard. Currently, we are workshopping a new play The Catskill Kids in Prattsville, New York. The story takes place at a summer camp on the mountaintop and explores the intersection of modern issues, local history, and classical literature. As a genre, Devised Theatre is essential as our nation faces social, economic and political changes. It is essential that our young people - and their grown ups - practice conversation, reflect on current issues, and participate in hands-on learning as artists, activists and citizens. We specialize in Theatre for Young Audiences because intergenerational experiences in the arts are key to making progress. Our mission is to inspire critical thinking, teach empathy and promote social justice through the Arts. Together, let's #dosomething and make positive change in the world.
