Human Development Council Information

As a social planning council, the Human Development Council (HDC) identifies and addresses social issues through research, coordination, and networking. The HDC is unique to the province of New Brunswick. It grew from a coordinated effort by the former Social Services Council, United Way of Greater Saint John, City of Saint John, Province of New Brunswick, and the federal government who funded a year long study in 1976, called the Human Development Project. Its purpose was to produce a framework for the planning and delivery of human services. Community participation was essential as was a spirit of partnership and collective responsibility.
