Formula Student, the students' design competition. Young engineers from more than 600 teams worldwide are tinkering with innovative racing vehicles and pushing the technically feasible to its limits. All to compete in 8 different statistical as well as dynamic disciplines at international racing events this summer in 3 different vehicle classes: Internal Combustion, Electric and Driverless vehicles.
Starting with a dream and founded as the second youngest Austrian student racing team in 2007, we participated in international Formula Student competitions for the first time in 2008 with a self-developed and constructed vehicle.
What started as a small group has meanwhile developed into a real extended family: In the meantime, the team comprises almost 100 racing enthusiastic members from various fields of study and different nationalities. From the classics of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science to economics and oriental studies, everything is represented here. It is precisely these different student origins and backgrounds that bring a wide range of knowledge and shape the very special and unique team spirit.
With the increasing number of members over the years, our team structure has become more and more complex, resulting in the formation of specialized modules that focus on their respective mechanical, electronic or organizational tasks. In total, we consist of 14 such modules.
<p>Until 1981, the long and narrow building located in the district “Wehrgraben” accommodated the Hack factory, which was once a large industrial enterprise. Its owner, Josef Hack was a producer of cutlery and possessed a worldwide patent for the invention of the scallop edge knife until 1948. Since 1994, the building has been home of the University of Applied Sciences, School of Management. <br> <br> The School of Management in Steyr provides more than 1,100 students with a modern, practice oriented university degree for a later career in the field of leadership and international management. It has a specifically international focus. Students are provided with the very latest internationally recognized input whereby intercultural management and English as the language of instruction are the order of the day. While English is a compulsory language French, Russian, Spanish, Chinese and Czech are also offered as options. <br> <br> From the R&D point of view, activities began in 1995, a short time after the commencement of teaching activities at Steyr Campus. Success stories at regional, national and European level in the field of research were written in the subsequent years. Nowadays, Campus Steyr and the other schools of the University located in Linz, Hagenberg and Wels, have become strong and competent partners of the economic community. With around 9,000 graduates thus far and roughly 4,000 students, the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien is Austria’s largest purely technical university of applied sciences. The educational offerings consist of 12 bachelor’s and 17master’s degree programs, which are offered as full-time, part-time and/or distance study programs. Eight degree programs are taught in English. The educational offerings are based on a solid scientific foundation and are also practice-oriented. At UAS Technikum Wien, emphasis is not only placed on providing a high-quality technical education, but also on subjects with a focus on business and personal development. Close ties and collaborations with business and industry give students and graduates excellent career opportunities. The combination of theory and practical application is of central importance in both research and instruction.
The research and development activities at UAS Technikum Wien have grown significantly in recent years and currently concentrate on four research focuses: eHealth, Embedded Systems, Renewable Energies and Tissue Engineering. UAS Technikum Wien was founded in 1994 and in 2000 it became the first institution in Vienna to receive the status of a university of applied sciences. It became a member of the European University Association (EUA) in 2012 and is also a network partner of FEEI – Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industries.
