Hospice King-Aurora Information

"Hospice" means a place of shelter for travelers. A charitable, not for profit corporation, Hospice King was founded in 1983 by a group of concerned individuals in King Township who felt there was a need to support individuals and their families during life's last journey. It was one of the first community-based hospices in Canada, and the first in York Region. By 1988, it had produced an award winning video entitled "Dying with Dignity" and a practical manual for volunteers. In recognition of its pioneering work in providing care, and its role in mentoring other hospices, the Secretary of State of Canada awarded Hospice King a Citation for Citizenship in 1988. In 1999, we changed our name to Hospice King-Aurora, to reflect the all the areas that we now serve. Hospice King-Aurora and its volunteers continue to contribute to the hospice movement. We have presented at international conferences and were one of the nine founding members of the Hospice Association of Ontario. We have received several voluntary and service awards for our work. In 2008, we were proud to celebrate our 25th year of offering service and support to members of our community.
