Inspired by the vibrancy and warmth of the Sri Lankan culture and disillusioned by the staid fast food options available, Founders Ruvanie and Chris decided to bring the essence of the Lankan culture to Australians, by creating a contemporary, fresh, Lankan food concept – and so Hopper Kadé was born. A sea change in Aussie street eats, Hopper Kadé delicately blends the allure of the subcontinent with current palate trends, forging a vibrant experience for food lovers and culture seekers alike. And it’s easy to see why. Sri Lankan food is based on the coconut, a well-known superfood. Hoppers are ghee-free, dairy-free and wheat-free – so it’s healthy and light yet steeped in tradition and flavour. Indeed, despite the basic ingredients, preparation, shape and curry accompaniments remaining unchanged for two centuries, the humble hopper has made a quantum leap from simple street food to the latest ‘must try’ for Aussie food aficionados. And while Hopper Kadé has been leading the way with this ‘on trend’ Lankan food resurgence, two things continue to underpin the brand: love and community.
