Many parents go through a period where parenting feels particularly overwhelming. Your children may be having large emotions, constantly pushing back, or behaving in a way that feels concerning. You've tried ways of engaging that have been, at best, ineffective, and, at worst, damaging to the relationship. External stressors, such as a demanding job, may be adding to a feeling of exhaustion, frustration, and living on autopilot. Everyone can feel the gears of the family unit grinding, and no one is having fun. “Can’t I just enjoy my days with my children and partner,” we wonder, “Without feeling like I have nothing left in the tank at the end of it?” We all want to feel seen, heard and understood, and know how much easier it is to bring our best self to a situation where we feel individually respected and accommodated by the person making decisions. Children are no different. When the child feels seen, heard and understood, they will be able to respond to you in a more productive way. Developing leadership skills that enable parents to adapt to their children as individuals is the key to calm, mutually empowering and enjoyable relationships within the family. I work with parents to help them identify their unique parenting leadership style. From there, we find the leverage points that are unique to you and your family, which will help you optimise your energy, collaborate effectively with your kids, and find enjoyment in parenting again.
