Honko Mangrove Conservation & Education Information

Since 2008, Honko has been working with coastal communities in SW Madagascar to promote community-based mangrove conservation and develop alternative livelihoods to reduce human pressure on the mangrove forest and increase community resilience to climate change. Honko's current initiatives include, but are not limited to: - Apiculture - Tilapia farming - Ecotourism - Women's basket-weaving association - Development of a Plan Vivo carbon credit project - Capacity building of the local management association (VOI) - Environmental education - Village awareness - Reduction of household firewood consumption
