Back in 1956 Hong Kong Baptist University was a bold start-up, a private higher education institute born from nothing, save the funding support from the Baptist Convention plus the passion of a group of Chinese and American Christian educators. Like all start-ups, we encountered huge challenges in the early days, but for the last 60 years we constantly innovated, reinvigorated, and renewed. And so we succeeded, gaining an enviable reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community around us and beyond. Today, HKBU is widely recognised for its distinctive education that prepares young people with the innovative impulse and creative thinking that the 21st century demands, and balances academic excellence with the development of the whole person. This is why we set out a 10-year strategic plan to take us to new heights as a research-led liberal arts institution of global significance. We endeavour to offer the best student experience and promote research excellence that advances knowledge, scholarship and academic leadership fit for the development of Hong Kong, the nation, the region, and the world. At the heart of its strategic plan lies a commitment to enhancing world class interdisciplinary research that would influence public thinking and policy making. To maintain its relevance to society and ensure continuance of its contributions to the creation and transfer of knowledge for the benefit of all, HKBU is purposefully investing resources to implement a comprehensive plan of action, including the Talent100 initiative: seeking faculty and research talents from around the world regardless of race, nationality, creed, and religion to teach, conduct research, and advance humanity at our caring university in Hong Kong—Asia’s World City.

The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) is the city's largest youth service organisation. Since its establishment in 1960, the HKFYG has been providing opportunities and facilities for the social, educational, cultural and physical development of young people. Income is obtained primarily from government subvention, as well as grants from the Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, other trust funds, programme fees, and both private and corporate donations. The HKFYG, through its youth membership network, provides quality services that address the issues and concerns of young people and promotes healthy all-round development. Over 90 service units organise more than 25,000 activities annually, with attendance to the various programmes now standing at five million a year. Over 500,000 registered members are engaged through the online platform, easymember.hk and the HKFYG app.
