Hogarth Chambers is a set of 22 barristers specialising in intellectual property law. Members of Chambers act in relation to all aspects of intellectual property including trade marks, passing off, copyright, designs, and patents. We have a thriving practice and are proud to have been involved in many of the leading IP cases, such as Baigent v Random House (the Da Vinci Code) [2007] EWCA Civ 247, Lucasfilm Ltd v Ainsworth [2011] UKSC 39, and COPA v Wright [2024] EWHC 1198 (Ch), to name but a few. Members also specialise in media & entertainment, information technology, and privacy, trade secrets, and confidential information. We have for many years been recognised as leading practitioners in disputes arising out of the music business, publishing, film and television work. Members regularly act in cases involving trade secrets and confidential information (including disputes between employers and ex-employees) and have acted in high profile privacy matters such as phone hacking. We contribute to and edit numerous leading texts in the IP field, including Copinger & Skone James on Copyright, A Practical Guide to Trade Mark Law, and the CIPA Guide to the Patents Act (the ‘Black Book’). Many of our members teach on a variety of different intellectual property courses, such as the PGDip in Intellectual Property Law and Practice at the University of Oxford and the Postgraduate Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Trent University.
