The sweet scent of ripe mangoes in summer, the welcome ring of the ice-cream man’s bell, the sight of pink clouds of cotton candy on the roadside corner: food memories from childhood are perhaps those that last the longest. When the HitNat brothers Anand, Chakkravarthi and Prakash who grew up in South Tamil Nadu- moved away for work, their cravings for the unique sweets and savouries of their native place, followed them. They longed for the simple, home-made delicacies that came out of certain much-loved shops in small towns in the Southern belt. Sometimes, they found substitutes among stores in metropolitan cities, but like many Indian foodies scattered around the globe, they realized nothing comes close to the real deal.
