HiPHOPENCOUNTER.COM is a part of Hip Hop Encounter, a media company based in Atlanta, GA dedicated to hip-hop music. Since early 2000, we have brought people news, music, and unbiased coverage of the independent hip-hop scene. Beginning as an online radio show in 2000 helped build the foundation for the company we have today. The show aired every week for an entire year, and with a new year came new opportunities. In March of 2001, Hip Hop Encounter and Rnation.com teamed together to create Hip Hop Encounter Live on UPN, a 60-minute hip-hop variety show complete with interviews, live performances, and a mic battle at the end of every show. The show was wildly successful, winning the ratings for its time slot, and eventually appearing in every television market in the state of Georgia. A mini-site was also built around the time of the television show's pilot episode to compliment the show and give viewers even more news, music, and info on all of our featured artists. The television show and mini-site aired for a year and a half. Seeing the success of our 'Mic Aggression' emcee battle segment, Hip Hop Encounter along with Off the Cliff Entertainment worked together to create a live event by the same name. And in June of 2001, Mic Aggression was unveiled to the world at the Somber Reptile in downtown Atlanta. The now monthly event, has become Atlanta's longest running Mic Battle, and its most competitive, with many of our contestants going on to dominate events around town. The very next month, Hip Hop Encounter launched a four-page newsletter covering the local hip-hop scene. The newsletter was well received, and by the time Issue #2 was released, it had become a magazine. Since that time, we have released four more issues, with one just around the corner. Some of the artists who have graced our covers include Ying Yang Twins, Slum Village, Raheem, 4-Ize, Jawz of Life, Rasheeda, Mars Ill, Dro, and D.R.E.S. tha Beatnik. The magazine covers all genres of hip-hop, hence our combined-artist covers and slogan "Bridging the Gap." Fast forward to January 2003, when Hip Hop Encounter launched an online email newsletter with a list of over 3000 names. This semi-monthly newsletter has been well received, and proves to be yet another successful venture bearing the Hip Hop Encounter name. Now, after nearly a year in the making, HiPHOPENCOUNTER.com has been launched. The site features news, multimedia, and most importantly, original editorial content. We take the same approach with this site as we do with our magazine, that is to provide new and compelling content for our readers. That approach, along with our dedicated writers, photographers, designers, and content providers, is what we believe will set us apart from other hip-hop publications as well as other hip-hop websites.
