Hilsen LLC, a Michigan Limited Liability Company, was founded in 2011. Mike Bylen, Hilsen's Founder and Co-owner, used his expertise in owning and managing three golf courses to improve operations, drive down costs, and improve procurement activities in his own golf course business. He first focused on the most significant standard commodities purchased for a course: fertilizers and chemicals. Mike worked with his local suppliers and was able to reduce his annual costs significantly. This savings was achieved through flexibility in payment terms, delivery times, and product substitution. Based on his success, fellow golf course owners began requesting Mike's assistance to help improve their own purchasing methods. Over twenty-five golf courses requested Mike's help. These actions led to the formation of Hilsen LLC to create a procurement service for golf course owners and management. Hilsen is focused on enhancing the purchasing and related activities within golf course businesses by providing a focused range of services that serve businesses and suppliers alike. The service provides greater transactional transparency, while simultaneously opening up markets.
