Hillside School Information

Hillside School is an independent residential school for boys aged10-18, with additional support needs ranging from issues such as childhood trauma, gaps in school attendance, ADHD, ASD, learning difficulties; and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Young people may reside at Hillside until age 18 to, for example, attend college. We accept placement referrals from Local Authorities in Scotland and across the UK. Following an initial assessment, Care and Education plans are set by a young person's Key Team. Young people are regularly involved in reviewing these plans to ensure positive outcomes. Further support is available from our Counselling Psychologist and Individual Work Co-ordinator. The school and residential houses are situated in in a large private rural estate in the beautiful village of Aberdour in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. It is well situated for road and rail links, and is twenty minutes from Edinburgh International airport and thirty minutes from Edinburgh Waverly train station. The school provides well-appointed single bedrooms in houses of 5-7 young people. Classrooms are well resourced and equipped. There are excellent facilities for sport, music, drama and a range of outdoor learning activities. Our young people are engaged in warm, compassionate, trauma-informed and consistent relationships with all the adults in the school, which creates a supportive atmosphere in which they can focus on their learning and other plans. High expectations for our young people's educational attainment and personal development results in all of us working effectively to improve educational outcomes and ensure positive post-school destinations.
