At Castleview, physical education (PE), sport and competition is an important part of the curriculum and daily life. We provide children with as many opportunities as possible to experience and excel in a wide variety of sports. Throughout the school PE is taught by the class teacher. Our gymnastics lessons are taught by a qualified gymnastics coach. In addition, we often have additional local coaching experts to teach alongside our teachers to ensure every child receives the best possible quality of physical education. Pupils at Castleview are provided with many opportunities to get involved with Sport and PE activities. The school provides structured lunch time activities (introduced January 2014), after school clubs and timetabled PE and Games lessons. These are delivered by a specialist sports coach, a teacher, or our specially trained Year 6 children. We are currently in the process of using some of our Sport Funding money to train the whole staff in the REAL PE scheme that will be used throughout the school. PE is structured to develop skills in a variety of team sports, as well as gymnastics and dance, year-on-year. Pupils are taught the skills to improve performance and accuracy of many sports. Our teaching methods also aim to encourage pupils to develop socially and personally as well as physically. We have three Year 5 'Sports Ambassadors' that attended training from the Sports Network. They will be working closely with the PE TEAM in the Spring Term to further develop the PE and Games at Castleview. PE and Games at Castleview is fully inclusive; everyone is expected to take part in PE, and all pupils are encouraged to engage in clubs. Many of our day trips and residential visits are entirely based on outdoor and adventurous activities. This enables the children the experience a wide variety of sports that they otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to eg canoeing, abseiling etc. Children enjoy their PE, and many pupils go on to join clubs and participate in the events and competitions, for example, 30 children and families are watching an England Hockey match at Wembley on Sunday 2nd Feruary. In addition, we also work in close partnership with Slough Sports Network and other local organisations. As a result, children are given opportunities to excel in their chosen sport in local and regional competitions. There is also the opportunity for all children to experience different sports in a safe but competitive way.
