An operating foundation, rather than a funding organization, which considers itself an engine of reform and a promoter of social change toward a sustainable society. It aims to identify social challenges and problems early on and to develop and implement model solutions. Its programme carries out think-tanking activities and policy consultancy which focus on the future of the European Union and its relations with neighbouring regions.
AUVA (Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt - the Austrian Workers' Compensation Board) is the social insurance for occupational risks for more than 3.1 million employees and 1.4 million pupils and students. It is financed mainly by contributions paid by employers. Its legal duties are: prevention of occupational accidents and diseases, occupational medical care, first aid for occupational accidents, post traumatic treatment, rehabilitation, financial compensation and research.
We care for about 170 000 victims of occupational accidents and diseases annually. About 350 000 persons involved in accidents of all kinds are treated in our trauma centres and rehabilitation centres every year. We pay about 73 000 compensations per year to victims of occupational accidents and diseases or their families.
