Henan Education and Research Network Center Information

Henan Education & Research Network (HERNET) attached to China Education & Research Network (CERNET) , is the provincial network in Henan which mainly provides Internet Access Service for education & research institutions in Henan. As one of the nodes of CERNET in 38 provinces and cities, HERNET Center, located in Zhengzhou University, is in charge of connecting the campus network of universities, research institutions, middle schools, and primary schools in Henan with CERNET and INTERNET It was in September, 2001 that the fiber back-bone network transferring rate of HERNET has reached 2.5 Gbps, that HERNET has built high-bandwidth back-bone which could connect Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, Louyang, Xinxiang, Jiaozuo, Xuchang and Pingdingshan and that HERNET has built Zhengzhou Education high-bandwidth municipal network. The total fiber length reaches 1000 km. As to construction of provincial education & research network, it has set up 4 call managers and 650 IP phone in Henan, which is the biggest IP phone system in Asia. The second-term project of HERNET which is going underway will connect all the cities in Henan through high-bandwidth network, making the transfer rate and accessing ability of HERNET has reached the level of developed countries. HERNET can provide various kinds of services, such as high-bandwidth access, technical consultant, network maintenance and training for government departments, education & research institutions and enterprises and units in Henan, provide life-long education to society and abundant educational and scientific resources and information. Meanwhile, it can also provide a totally new platform for applying high-bandwidth network to the teachers and students and working stuff of the educational and scientific units.
