Helen Rudy prides herself on creating beautiful fused glass art. She focuses on careful placement of colors and design to create decorative fused glass art panels and coordinated functional pieces. Helen Rudy's fused glass art pieces are made of multiple layers of opaque and transparent colored glass that are hand cut from sheets. She composes and assembles the glass, which is then melted or fused in a special glass kiln. This process of sandwiching and building up layers of colors and then melting it, creates glass with amazing depth and intensity of color. Helen is very interested in composition of color placement, the collaborative and opposition effect colors have on each other. She particularly enjoys experimenting with opaque and transparent glass and manipulating it to distort or define the design. Each design is created with emphasis on how light will impact or affect it. It is amazing how colors give the appearance as if they are about to jump off a piece simply because of how it is placed within a composition. Helen focuses a lot of her energy on creating functional bowls, platters and serving pieces. The old adages about function and form still ring true. Her coordinated table top pieces are perfectly at home as decorative pieces or fruit bowls. You can have beauty and function at the same time. A large portion of her time is spent creating custom pieces - from individual bowls to large table tops, chandeliers and fused glass panels. Helen uses a local welder to create the stands and metalwork for the art. Custom work is a very rewarding element in creating art.
