Hectors Protectors is a not for profit organisation that exists to protect Hector’s and Maui dolphins of New Zealand – the smallest and rarest marine mammals. Numbering just 55, Mauis face imminent extinction, but we still have time to save them. We just need to remove human induced mortality, particularly via gill netting. The objectives for which Hectors Protectors is established are: (1) to protect and preserve endangered dolphins of the species Cephalorhynchus hectori and any of its subspecies; (2) to promote actions that support preservation of Cephalorhynchus hectori and any of its subspecies; (3) to provide community education and training relating to the biology and conservation of Cephalorhynchus hectori and any of its subspecies; and (4) to establish and maintain a public fund to be called The Hectors Protectors Trust for the specific purpose of supporting the objects of Hectors Protectors.
