Heath & Hardie Ltd Information

Heath and Hardie Geosciences was created in 2000 as an independent petrographic consultancy. It was established specifically to address the fitness for purpose of both man made and natural materials utilised in the construction industry. In addition, petrographic services are offered for both clastic and carbonate oil reservoir rocks. The business is essentially a one person operation run by Rachel Hardie. Although H&H Geosciences operates as an independent consultancy, it has a close association with other like minded professionals who operate in close collaboration, each specialising in their own areas of expertise and commonly combining their talents. This allows Heath and Hardie to offer a comprehensive range of facilities that include X-ray diffraction, SEM and XRF. Rachel Hardie gained her PhD in carbonate and clastic sedimentology, petrography and palaeontology and specialised in heavy mineral analysis for a post doctoral thesis. She has 20 years experience as a geologist, beginning in academia, but has also specialised in petrography in both the oil industry, as a sedimentologist, and the construction industry as a materials petrographer. In the latter she has concentrated on both natural and man made materials, such as aggregates, armourstone, concrete, mortar, plaster & renders and brick and stone masonry. There are two major associated consultants who provide input on their specialised fields. William Revie has a national and international reputation within the field of construction and building material assessment and investigation. Much of his current work is in the field of renovation and conservation of ancient and historic buildings. Fred Hubbard is a mineralogist and mineral chemist who occasionally comes out of retirement to give advice on some of the more esoteric aspects of H&H investigations.
