HeartKids Victoria/Tasmania Information

HeartKids Victoria/Tasmania is a non-profit organisation focused on Childhood Heart Disease (CHD). We are dedicated to providing support, encouragement and hope to children affected by CHD and their families, while raising awareness of and vital research funding for, this chronic disease. HeartKids help care for the psychological and emotional wellbeing of the child and family after diagnosis, during treatment and post surgery. HeartKids works to create a positive healing environment in hospital; and we work to reduce the impact of childhood heart disease enabling heart children the opportunity of the best quality of life. Not many people know how prevalent Childhood Heart Disease is in Australia, eight babies are born every day with heart disease, around one in a hundred births, that figure is increasing with the current birth rate. Heart defects are the most common birth abnormality. CHD is the leading cause of child death of Australian children under one, accounting for more than 30% of all childhood deaths. Sadly, four precious lives are lost every week.
