Hazlin of Ludlow Limited Information

Ludlow based Hazlin manufacture bespoke, architectural veneered doors, panels and door sets for use in quality domestic residences, schools, hospitals, financial institutions and large construction projects throughout the UK. The Building Research Establishment (BRE) who will also provide support in the project has chosen them. Embedded in a product, the small electronic RFID tag stores much more information than a bar code. With a read-and-write capability and using the low-level radio frequency (RF) generated by a hand held reader, information is transmitted to and from the tag's memory. With a proven track record serving several industrial sectors the use of e-tagging has already identified a number of benefits to the construction industry including, tracking delivery of goods, asset management and location of materials on site. Chris Jones MD at Hazlin said: "As a relatively small but progressive company, this is quite an exciting development for us. Combined with an accompanying hand held scanner and software, the trial tags currently being installed in our doors, will contain a wealth of information. Amongst many other uses our contact details and door product code will simplify the reordering process where damaged doors need replacing as well as providing a hi-tec solution for security inspection in large buildings." Dr Ranjit Bassi, head of e-business solutions at the BRE, said: " We looked at this idea with Hazlin a number of years ago, but the technology was not fully developed. Now, however, they are in a unique position of being both a manufacturer of products to contain e-tags and a potential service provider to the construction industry. I am looking forward to the preliminary research results, which we aim to have available in the second quarter of 2006."
