WHO WE ARE: We are a group of friends who were mobilized, after the tragic accident of our classmate Bachir Semaan, to put his aspirations into practice by helping afflicted students. Drawing lessons from his life, his challenges and his ambitions, we are committed to support those who, like Bachir, have suffered tragedies but are adamant to complete their education. Our group is made up of friends, classmates or even scout teammates, and aims to further collaborate with volunteers and experts in the field to make our mission possible – and successful. ABOUT HAYDA BAYTAK: We grow up learning about how school is our second home, about how teachers are our second parents, and about how, at school, one belongs to a bigger family. Then, when the bell rings, we rush to the playground waiting for our parents to pick us up to take us back to our first home; our real home... But what if school is the only home we have? What happens to those of us who have lost a father in a car accident or a mother to cancer? What happens to those of us whose first home has been plagued with heartache, loss, and pain? After all, “home” is not a set of bricks and woods. “Home” is a moment of peace that is spent with the people we love the most. Home is where we learn to live amongst those we love. Home is where our education is. “Hayda Baytak” is a fund that was created in honor of our friend Bachir Semaan, who passed away in a tragic car accident on August 13th, 2014. It was founded by a group of his classmates and friends. Bachir lost his life to a gruesome accident, but it was the last of many tragedies he had already endured. Years before his own passing, Bachir lost his parents at a young age, leaving him to discover solace at his school. Indeed, in the midst of all his pain, his classmates would become his family and his school would become his home. MISSION STATEMENT To assist students who have lost either or both parents in their scholarly fees.
