Havenly is a collaboratively run Mediterranean bakery on a mission to break down the barriers to employment facing refugee and immigrant women. We sell our delicious baklava and other baked goods at more than 16 retail locations in New Haven and on our online store, where you can buy a box for an event. Our bakery is collaboratively run by students and local refugees. But Havenly is more than just a bakery - we offer paid job training fellowships to unemployed refugee and immigrant women. For four months, fellows “earn while they learn”, gaining confidence and crucial skills. Our industrial kitchens become hands-on classrooms to learn about industrial baking and food safety. Classes cover food safety certification, digital and financial literacy, ESL, resume building and measurements and proportions. At the end of the program, fellows are placed in jobs with local businesses. Havenly is a model for college students to welcome and support refugees in their cities. We are proud to be based in New Haven, Connecticut, the site of both prominent refugee resettlement and Yale University. Our goal is to replicate our model across colleges in the United States.
