I'm Tom Cain, a software engineer in Worcester. Harbour Labs is my company. I do three things: • Help small businesses get their systems talking to each other. CRM to accounts, website enquiries to wherever they need to go, the spreadsheet that has turned into a database. Usually a few days' work. Sometimes a small tool. • Help charities with their systems, data and governance. Gift Aid, membership records, funder reports, the annual return. I charge charities less. • Build software. Data dashboards, web apps, backend services. I mostly work in Go. Things I've built or worked on recently: • UK Drugs Monitor (drugsmonitor.co.uk). UK drugs data from official sources, in one place. Made with Dr Josh Torrance. • Harbour (joinharbour.co.uk). Software for running a small charity, starting with Gift Aid claims. Free for any charity. • Landhero (landhero.org). A crowd-sourced record of land and property, checked by a person before anything is published. Background: seven years building backend systems in Go. I was an early engineer at a logistics software company and ended up running a team of 25. Most recently I built the integrations framework for an ERP product (Stripe, Shopify, Xero, HubSpot). Before any of that I was a geoscientist. If something in your business or charity is annoying you, email me at hello@harbourlabs.tech. Describe what happens now. I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth fixing, and roughly what it would cost. I'm also open to Go contracts and engineering leadership roles.
