Universität Leipzig was founded in 1409 and is thus the second oldest university in Germany where teaching has continued without interruption. Today it offers a wide spectrum of academic disciplines at 14 faculties with more than 150 institutes. From A for African Studies to W for West Slavic Studies, Universität Leipzig is a classic university with the whole range of subjects from natural sciences through law, human and veterinary medicine to numerous arts degrees. 28,000 young people from all over the world are currently studying on more than 140 courses. The FernUniversität in Hagen is Germany’s only state distance-learning university, and its largest in terms of student numbers. Its flexible degree programs and continuing education options make higher education accessible to students in a variety of life situations. Its five faculties conduct a wide range of theoretical and applied research in their subject areas of Humanities and Social Sciences, Psychology, Mathematics and Computer Science, Economics and Business Administration, and Law.
