Gulf Coast Section SEPM Information

The GCSSEPM comprises two autonomous but closely associated organizations: the the Gulf Coast Section of the SEPM (GCSSEPM), which was established in 1953, and The GCSSEPM Foundation, which was established in 1981. The Section The Gulf Coast Section is the largest section of SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology) and is likely the most active. It was established for the purpose of "promoting the science of stratigraphy in the Gulf Coast states through research in paleontology and sedimentary petrology, especially as it relates to petroleum geology." The GCSSEPM has an active Executive Council and representatives in the business community. The most important activities that occur throughout the year are cosponsoring the GCAGS annual convention and its published Transactions, and producing the annual Perkins-Rosen GCSSEPM Research Conferences and Conference Proceedings volumes. The Foundation The GCSSEPM Foundation serves as a trust for sponsoring research and research-related activities, including research grants, seminars, conferences, symposia, publications, and programs of continuing education in stratigraphy and the related sciences of paleontology and sedimentary petrology. The Foundation supports these activities through tax-exempt donations from corporations and individual patrons, and through fees from conference registrations and publication sales.
