Barkan Winery was founded in 1990, but with roots that go back to the 19th century. It is situated at Hulda in a state-of-the-art winery in the Judean Foothills, south east of Tel Aviv. Barkan is the largest winery in Israel and it sits alongside the largest vineyard in Israel. Barkan has vineyards that cover the map of Israel from the Upper Galilee to the Negev, and is the dominant vineyard owner in the Judean Hills. Barkan Winery markets under both Barkan and Segal labels. Barkan wines range from the entry level Classic, to Gold Edition, Allure, Seven Hills, Special Reserve, then Platinum and Beta, up to the premier label Altitude, and the prestige flagship, Superieur. Segal Wines, part of Barkan since 2001, is most well known for its Petit UF and prestige UF (Unfiltered), a pioneering wine in Israel. The head winemaker is French born Olivier Fratty, who graduated from the University of Bordeaux and has been one of Israel's leading winemakers over the last twenty years. Barkan Winery has been Israel's most successful exporter over the years and is one of the most prolific winners of gold medals in both Israeli and international competitions. The beautiful Barkan Winery Visitors' Center is a popular attraction for wine tourists, being easily accessible from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
