A long-time marketing, communications and public relations professional, GENE TAFT owns and operates GT/PR, a greater Washington, DC based marketing and public relations firm specializing in the promotion of books and authors. GT/PR maintains an intimate client list to preserve the ability to put all the necessary resources behind each campaign. Prior to starting his own company in 2006, Taft spent 15 years in New York City working in-house for publishers ranging from Columbia University Press and The Overlook Press, to The Free Press at Simon & Schuster and Viking/Penguin. Most recently he was Vice President, Assistant Publisher, and Director of Publicity at PublicAffairs and Publicity Director at Johns Hopkins University Press. A few of the many authors Gene Taft has worked with include: Andy Rooney, Lou Cannon, General Wesley Clark, Richard Lewis, George Soros, Ray Davies, and Vernon Jordan. Books he worked on include: the major national bestseller Blind Man's Bluff; the runaway Boston Globe bestseller Black Mass, which he was also instrumental in acquiring; Why Not Us?, former Sports Illustrated writer Leigh Montville’s book about what it was like to be a Red Sox fan after they won the 2004 World Series; The Tiananmen Papers, a controversial cache of government documents smuggled out of China; and the #1 New York Times bestseller The Starr Report.
