Gremlan Information

The continuing Mission of CCRA incorporates the six original purposes of the GREMLAN (Greater Meadville Area Local Access Network). These purposes for which GREMLAN was created are: To improve interactive communication between citizens of the Greater Meadville Area and their local governments; and To provide a forum for access to community information relating to local government, the arts, library and literary concerns, and commercial activities; and To foster increased communication among governments, commercial and industrial enterprises, educational institutions and social service organizations; and To provide a marketing tool for local businesses and industry; and To encourage computer literacy among local citizens; and To obtain and to maintain a presence for the Greater Meadville Area upon the INTERNET as a resource for future educational, public service, commercial and industrial development. In 1991, the GREMLAN was conceived in part by Joseph D. Furno of Joseph D. Furno & Associates and Russel Schetroma, Esq., a Meadville attorney. GREMLAN's development became a cooperative project of the City of Meadville, the Township of Vernon and the Township of West Mead. Each participating government contributed equally to the cost of the hardware and software necessary to implement the system. The technical design and implementation of the system was accomplished totally with local volunteer services. Expenses were incurred for actual hardware and software components necessary for the system. Even the hardware was obtained at substantial discount as the result of the volunteer efforts of one of the main volunteer organizations, Griffin Data Systems, Inc. GREMLAN was designed to provide two layers of service to its users.
