Greenvale School Information

Greenvale school is a secondary school for students with severe learning difficulties. All our students have severe learning difficulties but in addition to this some have profound and multiple learning difficulties and some are on the autistic spectrum. Currently Greenvale students are working within P levels 1 to 8 and National curriculum levels 1 and 2. All our students have a statement special educational need or an Education, Health and Social Care plan. Our students are mostly grouped into classes by age and so the classes have a mixed ability range of students from those working at P1-3 (students with pmld) to students working at National curriculum levels. Currently there are 9 mixed ability classes . We also have 3 'High needs' classes for students who require a highly structured education in a low distraction environment. Each class has a teacher , a teaching support assistant (TSA) or higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) and a learning support assistant (LSA). The school is divided into three keystages. These are Keystage 3 comprising year groups 7,8 and9, Keystage 4 years 10 and 11 and keystage 5, our 'sixth form' years 12,13 and 14. Each Keystage has a co-ordinator who is part of the senior leadership team. Each keystage has a learning mentor who helps to support students with challenging behaviours. The learning mentors work positively with students to build trust and confidence so that when a student is experiencing difficulties the mentors are able to support them. There are two support bases within the school. The Communication Support Base (CSB) and the Learning Support Base (LSB). These are both led by middle leaders who each have two support staff working with them. The CSB supports students with communication difficulty (usually Autism) and the LSB supports students with pmld.
