Come on in.
We launched in 2007 as an extension of Black and White Recording Studio, based in Redruth, Cornwall, with a vision to shape the transformation of the music industry. The elitism of the music industry meant recording artists signed to large label’s had unrivalled privilege and exposure over independent artists and labels. The digital revolution transformed the music industry, forcing it to take on a digital body. Informed with our own experiences and recognising the technological shift, RouteNote was built!
Designed and built to take advantage of the shift towards independent and self-publication through online and mobile music outlets, and the consumer switch to online purchasing as outlined by the success of iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, Xbox Music, Google Play, RouteNote is partnered with some of the biggest retailers on the web to give artists massive and immediate availability for their tracks.
We support the creative development of our community of artists, passionate about creating equal opportunities and a fairer more accessible journey into the music industry. Today we manage a music distribution network covering over 90% of the digital music market, partnering with the world’s largest digital retailers including Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music. We manage RouteNote Studios, a venture dedicated to facilitating the adventures of content creators alike. We are a uniting artists in a lucrative demographic. We are a fast-moving company inspired by change, we are always looking to find opportunities to innovate how we do things and take our products to the next level.
Digital is far from distant.
AIR Studios began its long and prestigious history in 1969 when George Martin left EMI to establish an independent recording complex in the heart of central London. It became one of the most successful studio operations in the world.
Construction of a sister studio, on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, began in the mid 1970's attracting major artists from around the globe. Sadly, Hurricane Hugo devastated the island in 1989, and the studio was forced to close.
However, 1991 heralded the beginning of a new AIR Studios located in the beautiful Lyndhurst Hall in London. A site of significant architectural and historical interest, Lyndhurst Hall occupies a prominent corner position in the quiet suburb of Hampstead and is classified as a Grade II* listed building. Originally a church and missionary school Lyndhurst Hall was designed in 1880 by the great Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse (designer of the Natural History Museum).
Heavily involved in the design and building of the new studio facility, Sir George Martin opened AIR Lyndhurst in December 1992 with a gala performance of "Under Milk Wood" in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales.
