Green Monday is a multi-faceted social venture group that aims to tackle climate change, global food insecurity, public health and animal welfare issues. Founded on April 22nd, 2012 (Earth Day) in Hong Kong, GM has targeted to champion a sustainable food system by advocating a once-a-week plant-based meal philosophy. In doing so, the aim is to make sustainable living simple, widespread and actionable. Green Monday has developed a hybrid model that consists of a social branch and different venture branches. The social branch consists of Green Monday Foundation which runs education, public advocacy and other not-for-profit social campaigns. The venture branches comprises three entities, Green Common, Green Monday Ventures and a food-tech company, Right Treat. Green Common is a one-stop plant-based concept store that facilitates the adoption of healthy eating by merging a plant-based supermarket and restaurant into one. Green Monday Ventures "aims to invest in and incubate companies that deliver social and environmental good along with competitive market returns." Right Treat is a food-tech company with the mission to innovate food that will treat humans, the planet, and animals right. The first product launched by Right Treat is the pork alternative Omnipork, which was described by media as "game changer for Asia and the world". Green Monday was selected by FAST COMPANY magazine as one of China's Top 50 Most Innovative Companies of Year 2014. In September 2018, David Yeung was awarded the "Social Entrepreneur of the Year" by Schwab Foundation—the sister organization of the World Economic Forum. He was later awarded the Ashoka Fellowship by the Ashoka Foundation, while Green Monday received the Roddenberry Prize from the Roddenberry Foundation.
