Sierra Sustainable Builders was founded by Danny Webb and Cory Hannaford who have been friends since 1984. Construction was originally a means to travel and work, utilizing our skills wherever life took us. After working for numerous contractors and born out of a discontent for the typical and wasteful approach to building, we decided to form a company of our own creation. In the years since we have completed numerous projects of remarkable quality in which we found ourselves deeply involved in every detail, and this is where our satisfaction with our work is derived. We take great pride in our quality work, creative solutions, and client relations. Danny Webb has made Lake Tahoe his home since 1998. He started in the building trades before he was out of high school and, in 2011, claims 22 years of experience in the trades. Prior to Sierra Sustainable Builders, he trained for 5 years under a master carpenter specializing in high end finish wood work in some of Lake Tahoe's most notable homes. His comprehensive knowledge of construction from start to finish is complimented by his dedication to quality work and better building practices. Danny continues to enhance his skills, always on the look out for new materials and innovative solutions to the challenges of the modern shelter. For him, it is an artistic endeavor, seen in his tranformations of reclaimed materials into exquisite works. After a long period building in Seattle, Cory Hannaford came to Lake Tahoe looking for a better climate to enjoy his passion for the mountains. He has worked in the building trades since 1991, gaining valuable hands on experience ranging from retail build-outs in San Francisco and fine carpentry in Marin County to commercial remodel in Alaska. In between periods of work he managed to earn a BA in Anthropology, travelling throughout Africa, Asia, South America, Europe, and North America, trekking and climbing mountains, a journey which continues. Along with many years of field experience , he brings a dedication to clear communication with our clients and a talent to solve the many challenges of construction process, from the initial idea through the final inspection. SSB's Notable Accomplishments Include:- 2003 Merit Award in Tahoe Quarterly Magazine's annual home awards highlighting the attributes of our first residential project utilizing FSC certified lumber, recycled cellulose insulation, Zero VOC paints, natural fiber carpets, high efficiency mechanical attributes, and use of reclaimed wood. - 2005 Completed first Build It Green certified home in Lake Tahoe Basin, before LEED residential certification had been developed. - 2008 Completed remodel of South Lake Tahoe's first green hotel, The 968 Park Hotel and received an award from the Chamber of Commerce in recognition of our work. With a crew of 20 we started this project in the spring and had the doors open for the following ski season, wrapping up the project in a mere 6 months of concentrated and dedicated effort. - 2009 Worked with building department engineers to win approval for the re-build of a home lost in the Angora fire out of 100% recycled polystyrene Tridi Panel wall system. This high effiency, nearly fireproof home raised the bar for progressive building practices locally. - 2010 Completed second Tridi Panel project incorprating locally reclaimed wood, Trombe Wall, Sierra Sustainable custom cabinetry, and passive solar design. Another landmark in progressive building practices.
