Greater Moncton SPCA Information

Our History The Moncton Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was formed in 1955 by a small group of concerned citizens (led by Constance Hoover). In 1956, the organization was officially incorporated as SPCA (Moncton) Inc. Mrs. Hoover and her mother had the shelter built, and added to the building over the years as more and more animals needed a place to go. For many years, Mrs. Hoover ran the SPCA with the help of a few dear friends. During that time, the work was done by volunteers; as funds became available, they hired staff. In recognition of Mrs. Hoover’s many years of dedicated service, the GMSPCA shelter facility is known as the Hoover Animal Shelter. Today, the GMSPCA delivers service under the provincial Animal Protection Act, which is not duplicated by any other agency in the Greater Moncton area. We provide care for sick, injured, homeless, lost, and unwanted animals. Notre histoire La Société de protection des animaux (SPA) de Moncton a été fondée en 1955 par un petit groupe de citoyens (sous la direction de Mme Constance Hoover). L’organisation est officiellement incorporée en 1956 sous le nom de SPCA (Moncton) inc. Le refuge a été construit par Mme Hoover et sa mère et, au fil des années et avec un nombre grandissant d’animaux dans le besoin d’un refuge, des ajouts y ont été apportés. Mme Hoover, avec l’aide de quelques amis proches, a été à la tête de l’organisation pendant de nombreuses années durant lesquelles le travail était effectué par des bénévoles; puis par des employés à mesure qu’arrivaient des fonds. En reconnaissance des nombreuses années de service dévoué de Mme Hoover, l’édifice de la SPA du Grand Moncton a été baptisé le Refuge pour animaux Hoover. La SPA du Grand Moncton offre désormais des services en vertu de la Loi sur la protection des animaux et elle est la seule agence du genre dans la région du Grand Moncton. Nous offrons des soins aux animaux malades, blessés, sansabri, perdus et abandonnés.
