Many high school students due to socioeconomic status, immigration status, and general lack of generational knowledge regarding access to higher education face roadblocks in pursuing their higher education goals. enough is not being done by institutions of higher education to create an equitable model of college admissions. We have adopted a “Big Brother/Big Sister” style approach to mentor underserved high school students. This mentorship includes providing sustained support through "college student counselors", which are college students that will be paired with their high school student counterparts and will be directly invested in that student’s college application process. From the decision of which higher education goal is right for them (community college or a 4 year degree) all the way to comparing financial aid packages, college student counselors will be directly involved with helping these students access their full potential.
