Applied Physics Laboratories was founded on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL by a group of engineering students who identified a need to switch outdoor lights more effectively and more efficiently. Burning outdoor lights during the daytime results in wasted energy, increased costs, air pollution, foreign energy dependence, increased service calls and replacement of bulbs & ballasts sooner than otherwise necessary. Current project: GPS LightLock is the world's only outdoor light timer with onboard GPS. Never needs programming, maintenance or batteries. Plug & Play works everywhere on Earth. No programming, maintenance or human intervention required - ever! LightLock features onboard GPS to calibrate exact latitude, longitude, date and time. From there the control utilizes our proprietary algorithms to switch the light at the levels prescribed in ANSI C136.10 American National Standard for Roadway and Outdoor Area Lighting with enough cushion to accommodate inclement weather. Our location in the Florida Everglades has afforded us ample opportunity to test during severe storm conditions. Fully automatic & always immune to power failures, time zones, time changes, clouds, rain, smoke, snow, sandstorms, birds & overgrown trees • Eliminates energy waste caused by outdoor lights burning during the daytime. • Eliminates service costs for the lighting system. • Maximizes the full rated service life of the bulbs, ballasts, and fixtures. • Eliminates complaints about outdoor lights burning during the daytime resulting in fewer service trips and an improved public image for your organization.
