National Electric was founded in 1936 and originally operated out of a small retail outlet on Knowle High Street, West Midlands. In 1945 Tom Morgan started a company known as Morgan Brothers, in Stirchley, Birmingham. He was joined in this venture in 1946 with his brother Stan Morgan, our present Morgan Bennett Group chairman. Together they acquired National Electric and renamed the company National Electric and Engineering (B'ham) Ltd. In 1948 Tom left the business to pursue an alternative career and from this date the company has been in the safe hands of our chairman, Stan Morgan, his sister, Jeanne Bennett and their families. Maximising every opportunity for expansion in the post war-building boom enabled National Electric to establish a foothold in the contemporary market place of the Coventry and Warwickshire area. A major housing development on the Caldwell Estate in Nuneaton and Bell Green Neighbourhood Unit in Coventry were typical of the type of installations undertaken by the company at the time. In 1961 National Electric acquired A. E. Thompson Builders Ltd, and established new premises in Poplar Road, Dorridge. Building on experience gained during the 1950's, the company enjoyed steady growth throughout the following decade undertaking varied installations for clients including The National Coal Board, The Post Office and Local Authorities. In 1965 Morgan Bennett Holdings Ltd was established to act as the parent company for National Electric and its sister companies. Sustained growth throughout the 90's saw the Morgan Bennett Group of companies outgrow its offices in Dorridge. December 1998 brought the challenging and exciting move to new premises at Cattell Road in Warwick and the start of a new chapter for a new millennium.
