GoTitleFree - Freedom from marital status titles Information

Go Title Free™ seeks to achieve freedom of gender identity and marital status titles for women, non-binary people, and all areas of society by challenging and facilitating organisations to stop requesting, and using titles (i.e. ‘Mr’, ‘Mrs’, ‘Miss’, ‘Ms’, or ‘Mx’) when onboarding and communicating with the public, their customers and their employees. Many people no longer want to be defined by a title, a status, or a gender. Whilst many people like their gender specific and marital status specific titles, those who do not often have little choice about opting out if they do not want to choose or divulge. Gender specific titles mean that women must always make a statement about their marital status or make the proactive decision to opt out by using ‘Ms’ or ‘Mx’, which are not always in the drop-down lists given to us by organisations when we register with them. Demanding title information, in the way which many organisations do, also puts unnecessary pressure on those who are undecided on their gender identity and on non-binary individuals. Stella Sutcliffe founded GoTitleFree in 2018 after personal experience of changes in title resulting in regular mistakes and and judgments about her identity. She seeks to achieve a title free world as a legacy of inclusion to her children, and for everyone who feels they cannot be authentic when forced to choose a title. Go Title Free™ believes that the gathering of marital status title information is unnecessary to all organisations. Go Title Free™ believes that to achieve true choice, we must begin with organisations, challenging them to, and supporting them with changing the way in which they gather, store and communicate with their people internally and externally.
