“The Dallas Wind Symphony began as a grand experiment and has become the international standard bearer for professional wind and percussion ensembles.”
- Robert Floyd, Executive Director, Texas Music Educators Association
The Dallas Wind Symphony is America’s foremost civilian wind band, comprised of more than 50 professional musicians of exceptional individual and collaborative talent, celebrating a proud 28-year history of outstanding performances, award-winning recordings, and meaningful education. Our current budget is approximately $900,000 per year, and we employ 50 part-time musicians, guest conductors, and four full-time staff members, plus one full-time office cat. With these limited resources, we’ve built a band that challenges or bests the artistry of the leading professional wind ensembles in the world.
We bring joy to people through band music. Our extraordinary musicians and enthusiastic audiences celebrate the performance, promotion and preservation of the music and traditions of the American wind band.
The Orlando Concert Band is a 70-member wind ensemble, organized and operated as a not-for-profit Florida corporation. Founded in 1989 and composed of both professional and amateur musicians, the band performs throughout Central Florida for concerts plus a variety of ceremonies and other special events. The mission of the band is to celebrate and preserve America's musical heritage through professional-level performances of musical literature for concert band. Past performances of the Orlando Concert Band include the St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Oviedo concert series, the City of Orlando's "Fireworks at the Fountain" 4th of July celebration, the patio at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Memorial Day Ceremonies at Woodlawn Cemetery, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's commencement ceremonies at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, and NASA's 50th Anniversary at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. What kind of music does OCB offer? For festivals, holidays, and events requiring a lighter program, the band plays a variety of the traditional, popular, and patriotic music you would expect to hear on weekends at a small-town bandstand in rural America. Programs can be structured to include vocal and instrumental soloists accompanied by the band. If a more formal program is desired, the band can perform symphonic and orchestral pieces, theme music, and jazz from its large and comprehensive repertoire. Our programming experts will work with you to select music to complement any event or occasion. A typical performance includes 60 to 90 minutes of music. We will provide sample programs and demonstration CDs upon request. What are the benefits of live musical performance? Your target audience will benefit from the entertainment and educational value of a professional, live musical performance. Our performances are exciting, wholesome, and family-friendly. These qualities focus positive attention on any event in which we participate.
