Golden Eagle Lodge Inc Information

Golden Eagle Lodge is owned and operated by the Baumann family. Our love for the Gunflint Trail began back in the late 1960's when Dan's family would come up to the area every summer, for a month, and camp in the Flour Lake Federal Campground. Being that the campground is only a mile down the lake, we were familiar with the resort's existence. The decision to purchase Golden Eagle Lodge was eventually made in 1976 by Dan's parents, John and Irene Baumann, and immediately, the remodeling and rebuilding work began. Golden Eagle Lodge was originally a "men's only" resort dating back to its construction in about 1945. This concept didn't last long, however, as the Gunflint Trail was explored by families of men, women, and children. This model was taken to heart and Golden Eagle Lodge became a family resort in the early 1950's, which it is still to this day. By 1982, the resort had grown from offering only four seasonal cabins to the now present ten cabins, all of which are operational for year round use. Dan and Teresa met in 1987 and married in the following year. Over the next 4 years, they had 3 children: Zach, Brianna, and Jonathan. In 1994, Dan and Teresa purchased the lodge from Dan's parents. They currently operate the resort with the help of family and staff. The Main Lodge contains our office and a small gift shop. We have many souvenirs, books, maps, tackle, live bait, ice cream, candy, cold pop, ice, and limited groceries. We also sell all Minnesota fishing, hunting, and ski licenses. A common room, with stone fireplace, invites guests to come in and sit, enjoy coffee, tea or hot chocolate, and read and look at our many reference books, games, and historic photo albums. Our Nature Center contains many interesting items and information and is the center of our summer Nature Program. Our weekly campfire in the Tipi is a very popular event from June thru August. We have been bringing family vacations to the wilderness for over 39 years. Our family has come to know many wonderful people from around the world who have chosen us as their wilderness destination. We are very fortunate to have a large number of repeat customers and we look forward to their yearly visits. Our children also have a great time renewing friendships and meeting new friends. We feel privileged to share our special place in the woods with you.
