The company, global trademarks and licenses were then acquired by Australian Nick Van De Merwe in 1999. Nick has over three decades of experience in wholesaling and retailing with major apparel companies, and as many years of experience in surfing. Nick grew up moving around with his 'Tea trading' family spending many of his early years in Java. He bought his first surfboard in Bali in 1974 from none other than Surfing International's inaugural CEO, Randy Rarick. After several years of bumming his way around the world's snowfields and then a lengthy career with Pacific Brands in marketing and general management roles, this Oxford University graduate headed back to the beach as Golden Breed's CEO. Passionate about Golden Breed's iconic, heritage status, but bringing a dynamic fresh direction for the brand, Nick and his team have put the FUN back. While ensuring Golden Breed still encapsulates all its retro roots of "back to the beach", the brand's appeal is as relevant to today's younger beach loving market by adapting the best of the past with current trends and market demands.
