Autonomy and self-reliance Our aim is to promote and enable the transition for displaced people away from dependency towards increased self-reliance, resilience, and development. We need to get away from the charity-driven aid model. Rather, we need to develop platforms, networks, and structures, that enable refugees to make their own decisions and to become autonomous and self-reliant members of our societies again. In other words, we need to find ways to support people to help themselves. This is why all our projects focus on helping people with refugee background to become autonomous, independent and self-reliant members of society again! Glocal Roots in Switzerland In order to become autonomous and self-reliant in Switzerland, people with refugee background need to be included into Swiss society and they need to be able to earn their own living. This is why our projects in Switzerland focus on fostering social and economic inclusion for people with refugee backgrounds. We do this through activities connecting Swiss citizens and ‘newcomers’ as well as through a work integration scheme that we are currently developing. Our projects abroad Glocal Roots efforts abroad focus on supporting refugees living in urban areas as well as in camps to become more autonomous and self-reliant again. We do this by establishing structures, platforms and ‘toolboxes’ that can be used by refugees to become agents of change for themselves and their communities.
