GlobalScot helped Park Circus to bring classic films back to Hollywood, with specialist knowledge of both the American and Scottish markets. Glasgow-based film distributor Park Circus is bringing the classics back into focus, providing a back catalogue of more than 17,000 classic films for cinemas and special event screenings. Founded in 2003 by entrepreneurs John Letham and Nick Varley, the business has expanded internationally and was supplying film licences to more than 80 countries when an opportunity arose to move into the American market. "One of our studio partners liked what we were doing internationally and said they wished there was a similar company in the US," explains John. "We saw that as a great opportunity and in about six weeks had set up a business in Los Angeles (LA). "The problem was that, because we had acted quickly, over the next year of trading it became clear that we were a bit in the dark about how things should be accounted for. We wanted to double check that the way we were operating was compliant, appropriate and efficient for that market, so I reached out to the GlobalScot network." Through GlobalScot, John was connected with Tracey Ginn - a Scottish corporate lawyer who relocated to California with her screenwriter husband ten years ago. "I was on holiday in Scotland and was contacted by the GlobalScot team as Park Circus had set up some operations in LA and were looking to talk to someone about the Californian market," explains Tracey. "I thought it was a really interesting business with a passionate and energetic management team. I also loved the name as I went to school in Park Circus and also worked there. I was able to talk to them about some legal issues and put them in touch with some other advisers who could help on the financial side."
