Glen Iris Primary Information

Glen Iris delivers a highly regarded specialist program comprising Performing Arts, Physical Education, Visual Arts and French to all classes. These programs incorporate sports carnivals, camping program, a whole school concert, soirees, French Day, Artists in Residence, whole school arts projects, swimming, gymnastics and interschool sport to name a few. Performing Arts classes are conducted in our new, purpose built Arts Centre. This year, students have been given the opportunity to perform in the State Schools' Spectacular, Instrumental Soirees, Community events including our school Twilight Market and school assemblies. Tuition is available in a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, strings and concert band instruments. Students can also choose to join the school Choir and Rock Band. Biannual whole school concerts are a feature of the Performing Arts program. Glen Iris Primary School adopts an environmentally-responsible approach. The school uses recycled rainwater to irrigate the grounds and in the student bathrooms. Classes undertake units of work focussing of various aspects of environmental awareness including the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" message; Sustainability; Walk to School days and shared responsibility for managing the school vegetable garden, worm farms and our chickens, Salt and Pepper. A recent development has been the installation of a solar panel system to meet a large proportion of our energy needs now and in the future. Parental involvement is an important part of learning at Glen Iris and participation in the learning process can take many forms ranging from assisting in classrooms and programs; helping at working bees through to involvement on Parents Association and School Council. An active "Friends of the Library" group operates to boost and develop this important resource.
