The Max Planck Society is an internationally recognized, autonomous science organization with a longstanding tradition. “Insight must precede application” – the guiding principle of the Max Planck Society are words spoken by the physicist that our organization was named after. Excellent minds, a high degree of freedom and outstanding work conditions create the foundation for basic research at the very highest level. And thus 20 Nobel Prize Laureates are among the ranks of the Max Planck Society to date. The Max Planck Society with its 86 Max Planck Institutes and facilities is the international flagship for German science: in addition to five foreign institutions, it operates another 20 Max Planck Centers with research institutions such as the Princeton University in the USA, the Paris University Science Po in France, the University College London in UK, and the University of Tokyo in Japan. As one of eleven German universities, the Humboldt-Universität was chosen “University of Excellence” in June 2012. It was successful in all three funding lines in the third round of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments and awarded for its future concept “Educating Enquiring Minds: Individuality – Openness – Guidance”. In an international comparison, Humboldt-Universität ranks among the top ten of German universities. Scientists here research socially relevant topics and challenges of the future and communicate these with the public. Humboldt-Universität invests all its energy in being a place of excellent research and teaching. It’s aim is to promote young talents and to positively influence society and economy outside the university framework. Die Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin gehört seit dem 15. Juni 2012 zu den elf Exzellenzuniversitäten Deutschlands. Sie hat in der zweiten Phase der Exzellenzinitiative in allen drei Förderlinien erfolgreich abgeschnitten und mit ihrem Zukunftskonzept „Bildung durch Wissenschaft: Persönlichkeit – Offenheit – Orientierung“ in hohem Maß Anerkennung gefunden.
