Compton Girls Club is a client-centered girls empowerment group based in Compton California. We reach out to girls via workshops, introductions to new skills, and field trips. These meetings take place several times a month within high schools and local community centers. It is our intention to connect girls with the resources that are available within their communities. With this, they will begin to see the value of their own neighborhoods. Pride in one's city and where they come from will be integral to the group. We will aid this by learning about the city and taking part in service projects. It is important for the next generation of women to create sustainable communities. Girls are introduced to life skills through mentors and speakers of color. It is important for the members to see themselves mirrored in the people that come to speak to them. We install curiosity in the girls by introducing new careers and hobbies that can be used as self-care activities or even potential ways to earn income. With access to these resources, the girls will have the building blocks for healthy self-esteem. It’s is known that a person who has pride in herself and their city, comes back and teaches the next generation of women. We are a registered 501(c)3 .
