Ghella ANZ Information

Founded in 1894 from humble beginnings, Ghella operates in the construction of large public projects and specialise in underground excavation and tunnelling works. Over the course of 150 years we have built over 130 tunnels and connected more than 1,000 km’s of highways, railways and subways. Operating in Australia since 2010 and New Zealand since 2018, we have worked on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country and have established a recognised presence in the local infrastructure market. Our first project in Australia, Legacy Way, was named ‘Best Tunnelling Project in the World’ in 2013 and since then we have continued to take on some of the countries’ most crucial and challenging projects. Our second project was the city-shaping Sydney Metro City and South west project which saw the first ever rail tunnels built under the Sydney Harbour. This one-in-a-generation project transforms the rail network in Sydney and sets a benchmark for future infrastructure in the country. We are currently working on New Zealand’s largest wastewater project, the Central Interceptor, building more than 20km of tunnels to reduce wastewater overflows when it rains heavily. We continue to seek important projects that make a difference to the community with some of our current projects including Sydney’s M6 Stage 1 project, the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport project and the Sydney Metro - Eastern Tunnelling Package. We build to the highest standards, combining the expertise developed through a history of over 150 years along with the experience and knowledge gained by working with talented professionals and partners in Australia and New Zealand.
