Gemba was formed by Andrew Mack in 2012 after over 30 years global experience across all aspects of procurement, supply and manufacturing. The inspiration behind the name comes from his 10 years working for Toyota Motor Corporation experiencing first hand the power of The Toyota Production System (TPS). The word Gemba translates to “the place where activity happens, where value is added”. The phrase “Go to Gemba” is used to explain the belief that you cannot truly solve problems or deliver improvement from behind a desk or in a meeting room, you have to experience the process first hand and engage with those directly involved, whether inhouse or at a supplier. This principle underlies all Gemba’s projects.
