AUTISM STORYTELLING THROUGH MOBILE APPS FOR THE SOCIAL GOOD. Geek Club Books is a creative company for sharing life on the spectrum in a positive and entertaining way.In 2002, 1 in 150 children were diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Today, it's 1 in 68. Over 500,000 children will become adults over the next decade. There is a social stigma, media misrepresentations and fear mongering that surrounds those with autism making them vulnerable to isolation and negative stereotypes. WE'RE HACKING THE AUTISM STATUS QUO Geek Club Books mission is to bring forth POSITIVE views of autistic individuals for awareness, acceptance, understanding and inclusion. ENTERTAINMENT AND EDUCATION WITH A SOCIAL MISSION We create interactive storybook apps on iOS and Android platforms that entertain, engage, and teach lessons about autism, being different, self-acceptance, and bullying. Our first app, The Mighty League, Vol 1: The Terrible Taunting is available on iTunes, Amazon and Google app stores. Targeted for children ages 5 - 11, features an Aspie protagonist who sees the world from a unique perspective. Curriculum based on Common Core State Standards has been developed to accompany the app. We received the Temple Grandin Award for this work.
